The NBN is Here (finally)

Our internet connection struggles most of the time and then gives up all together everyday at 6pm. We currently have adsl1 but are on a cmux/rim and the link back to the exchange (Gulgong) is saturated during primetime… So when we found out we were slated to receive NBN (fixed wireless) in 2011 we were eagerly looking forward to it.

Years pass, nothing happens, politicians debate, Government changes, NBN gets reworked, we begin to think its all vapourware.

Suddenly without warning brown fixed wireless “build” spludges appear all over the region, including one over our place. Its quite a complex setup with towers being relayed all over the place.

  1. 2GUL-51-08-GULG – The Tower in Gulgong itself that services the area around town. To this tower two other towers are relayed:
    1. 2GUL-51-02-CKGK – Services Northern Yarrawonga & Cope
    2. 2GUL-51-10-COYY – Services Cooks Gap & Moolarben. To this tower two other towers are relayed
      1. Leadville (Relay only, ACMA Site 9018721). To this tower 3 towers are Relayed
        1. 2GUL-51-03-CLHL – Services Coolah Nth and surrounds
        2. 2GUL-51-03-CLSL – Services Coolah Sth and surrounds
        3. 2GUL-51-06-DUNE – Services Dunedoo and surrounds
      2. (unknown ID, yet to be built) – Services St Fillians. To this tower two other towers are relayed
        1. 2GUL-51-11-YARR – Services Southern Yarrawonga
        2. (unknown ID, yet to be built) – Services Cooyal

From Gulgong everything then travels to Dubbo (via fibre?) where it is finally accessible to ISP’s via the Dubbo “point OF Interconnect” (POI).

The MyNBN.info has plenty of details for those interested including coverages maps etc.

Most of this went live today, including our tower, we are a few hundred meters away from “2GUL-51-02-CKGK” and so are looking forward to trouble free internet at 25/5 mbps!
Needless to say we have already got our order in.

The tower is massive. It sits high on a ridge and then is another 50m or so above the trees.

NBN fixed wireless tower '2GUL-51-04-CKGK" sits high above the trees in Yarrawonga.
