Do Goannas Eat Dust?

We have known for a while that a goanna (technically a Lace Monitor) frequented our house.

When the weather turned hot in November we got a little concerned about the massive amount of leaves under the house (big no no when you live in a bushfire zone). So one weekend I crawled under the house and raked them all out. To make sure this wasn’t a regular activity we acted upon the advice of the local bush fire brigade and hung aluminum mesh fly-screen under the house. Within a week we had two big holes in the fly-screen with a nice set of goanna tracks going from one to the other.

Anyway here is the culprit, we interupted it as it was making it’s way across the yard to one of the holes (I can’t imagine what it finds under the house that makes it so attractive – do goana’s eat dust?). There’s not much in the picture to give any scale but he’s pretty big – easily over 1.5m long.
